General information

The "Orthodox Wonder-working icons" - series issued by the National Bank of the the Republic of Belarus - presents the most famous and beautiful orthodox wonder-working icons. The series started in 2010 and includes so far the following icons: "Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos of Smolensk" and "Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos of Minsk". The 2011 issues include the following coins: "Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos of Kazan" and "Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos of Zhirovits".

Obverse

Stylised design of a cross, surrounded by traditional ornaments, coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus, inscriptions in Belorussian language "Republic of Belarus", "20 roubles" and "2010", and the hallmark - "Ag 925".

Reverse

The image of the "Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos of Smolensk". Gold plated crowns and ornaments. Inscription: "Smolenskaya" in Belorussian language.

General information

Karl Brullov (1799-1852), Russian painter, born in St. Petersburg, lived in Russia and Italy. Key figure of Russian neoclassicism and romanticism, known for his portraits, genre and historical paintings. One of his best-known work, "The Last Day of Pompeii" (1830-1833) created a sensation in Italy and established Brullov as one of the finest European painters of his days. From technological point of view the reverse of the coin is a beautiful example of a coloured design printed on a very high relief.

Painting of a lady on horseback (The Rider, 1832) with a little girl and two dogs, effigy of Elizabeth II, inscriptions "Niue Island", "Elisabeth II" and "1 dollar".

Reverse

Engraved self-portrait of the painter (1848), above - grape harvest (Girl gathering grapes in a Suburb of Naples, 1827), below a coloured image of a nun's choir (Nuns of the Nunnery of Saint Heart in Rome, 1848) inscriptions "1799-1852", "Karl Brullov".

General information

Tanacetum zangezuricum is a perennial plant. It has a large footstock of 10-20 cm height with a basket on the top. Its lateral, one-rowed flowers are white while tubular, quadri-dentate flowers in the center are yellow. Tanacetum zangezuricum blooms in June-July, on rocky slopes and stony places 2500-3600 m above sea level. In Armenia it is met in Zangezur and Meghri regions.

In 2010 the following coins were issued: Notre-Dame (Paris), Duomo Milano (Milan), Koelner Dom (Cologne), Westminster Abbey (London), Stephansdom (Vienna). The 2011 issues will include the following coins: cathedrals in Prague and Barcelona, and Mariacki Church in Cracow. By the end of 2011 a set of 8 coins in a wooden case will be issued.
